Everything You Ever - Dr. Horrible Soundtrack |
] |
Random fact: I apparently study better with Joss Whedon music playing in the background. Of course, now that I've made it through Once More With Feeling and Dr. Horrible I'm fairly low on options. Restless for Giles giving the Exposition song and then Jaynestown, I guess? Hell, that doesn't sound like too bad of a double feature.

So here's how my "morning" (some call it the night) started, per my AIM log.
Jacob 10:32 Hmm, it's raining. Yay. Nothing says fun like low 30s and rain.
Ian 10:32 Supposed to be icy and nasty as all hell, from what others have said.
You'd think that when someone from out of state even knows that it's bad outside, I'd pick up on it. But no, I managed to head out to walk to work without a plan for sidewalks covered in layers of ice with fresh rain on top of that. It only took two houses for me to be on my ass on the rain-slicked ice...and then again about four houses later. I went down to my knees or butt four to five times on my way to work; by the time I got there I was soaked. Thankfully, everything managed to dry except for my socks. Nothing says fun like working on your feet for eight hours in wet socks.
At least I'm home now and only slipped two more times on the way home. There's no way I'm leaving the house again at this point.

I'm studying today (history and calculus finals tomorrow), but I'm sure I'll be able to devote an hour or two towards L4D if we can get a group going.

Man, my dreams every time I've dozed off in OChem today have been screwed up. Oddly consistent with things that have been on my mind, though. I need to play on No Mercy less. Also, it's probably not good I fell asleep in my first lecture of the day multiple times. More coffee is needed before History. Posted via LiveJournal.app.

The first round of finals I've had in six years starts in a week (and, lets be honest, its the first round I've taken seriously in seven years). I'm stressing a little about them, but I'm fairly certain I'm looking at A's in chemistry (both lecture and lab) and math (after getting a D than an F the first times I took this course) and a B in history. I just need to make it there so I can enjoy my winter break of a shitty job and trying to cope with bad memories.
Latest news from My Friendly Indian Earthlink Techs is they think they know what the problem is and need the phone company to preform a line test and provide them with the updated results. The estimate they gave me last night was 1-3 days, though I don't know if that was just for the phone company to do their part or for the entire thing to be resolved. Looks like they might miss my window of availability for leisure activities at this rate; once we get to this weekend I won't be doing much but work and study for the Chem final, which is next Wednesday morning.

The parade of nice Indian men who've kept delaying restoration of my DSL are beginning to wear on me. Last news was if it's not fixed in 48 hours I should call back. I just want to shoot zombies with my friends. Posted via LiveJournal.app.

| Ugh. |
[11 Nov 2008|08:04am] |
In the middle of nasty work/school/sleep/repeat stretch right now, I'll probably be mostly out of contact until Friday. Looks like there's no way for me to make it up to Chicago for The Hold Steady as well; finances just got a bit more complicated.
On the plus side, I've got a bunch of stew goat in my fridge to play with.

Clerks Cartoon - Episode 6 |
] |
There were no vampires, no hookers, no one threw a cigarette at me, and the police only game to hang out and drink coffee, not cart away dead people.
I'm exhausted right now. I'm scheduled to work this shift Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. They think there may have been a bit of a scheduling error. Boy, I love being "part time".

Rush - The Trees |

Still alive.
School is going well; I'm easily handling all my science/math classes and muddling through freshman-level history (I like the lecturer and information, I hate my fellow students and the grading system). About 2/3s done with my first semester and going to speak to some people about registering for next semester today. Taking Heat, Light, and Electricity + Organic Chemistry II next semester, which means less credit hours but six hours a week in labs that I don't get credit for.
Why did I decide to be a science major again?
I've been offered a job by the Speedway chain of gas stations and go for orientation on Friday. Nothing like taking a huge paycut from my last job and getting the pleasure of working third shift in a gas station in exchange. Oh well, a job is a job and I can hopefully get a decent number of hours. I'm not a huge fan of this "no income" stuff; really cuts back into my budget for things like "food" and "utilities".
Not much else to say. Germany continues strong into 1911 in a tie for largest world power with Austria. Momentum is against Austria for now, but Britain and France aren't going to settle for knocking Austria down only to have Germany rise in its place.

| The Last Month |
[13 Sep 2008|10:21am] |
Looks like it's been over a month since I posted in here. Hell, I was still a Siemens/ManJuice AG (formerly Bayer/Umbrella) employee at the time. Here's a quick recap.
Aug 8 - Last day at Siemens went fine, got some nice recognition and references.
Aug 9 - Unemployment Party! The food came out great, but I fell asleep at like 10pm after spending too much energy working on it. I believe a good time was had by all.
Aug 14-17 - Gencon came and went.
Aug 20 - School started, and with it came unexpected book expenses. Taking Organic Chem I (lecture and lab), Multivariate Calculus, and History of Western Civ II.
Getting into the school rhythm has taken a little work, but it's worth it. It's amazing how much more seriously I'm taking things now (and how less seriously some of the younger students are taking things). My first exam was Wednesday and I'm hoping for something in the 90% range; the next two exams are in a few weeks and I'm fairly confident for them as well.

...only going to campus 2 days a week, that is. Two new sessions of the lab I need opened up on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, so now I'll be on campus four days a week. This may make it a little harder to find employment, blah. At least the labs are in the morning hours, and I'll still be watching to see if enough people switch into them to open up a spot in one of the two sessions I really wanted.
I delivered my letter of resignation from ManJuice AG on Monday, so it's all offical like now. Terrifying.
The party approaches! Two weeks from Saturday.

I think it's a sign of my changing tastes in games that the news about Rock Band 2 (full setlist, 20 additional free downloadable songs, most Rock Band 1 songs will transfer over for free a small fee) is far more exciting than the news about Final Fantasy XIII (also available at launch on the 360).
Mmm, more Rock Band.
Edited to add that I'm now hearing there will be a fee to use the tool, but it should be in the $5 range. Oh well, still good gaming news.
And work sucks.

Okay, I'm smoking some ribs on Monday. Anyone want to come? Looks like corn is on sale right now, so I'll do some corn-on-the cob and probably steamed broccoli to go with.
BYOB if you want it; if I get more than 4-6 people I might ask for some donations against the cost of food, but I don't think that many will show up.
I'd say to plan for a meal time around 7:00 pm, but there'll be some snacky type foods. Entertainment = the usual (ie, Rock Band).
